Seprtember saw 43rd consecutive month of growth in car sales.

September 15, 2015

UK car registrations reached a new September record, buoyed by the change to the new 65 plate at the start of the month.
With 462,517 new cars registered last month, there was an increase of 8.6 per cent over September 2014, when 425,861 new cars were sold. Last month was also the 43rd consecutive month of growth in the UK market.
The total number of cars registered in 2015 so far is 2,096,886 – 7.1% higher than at the same point last year. It is also the first time that the two million mark has been passed in September since 2004.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reports increased demand across all fuel types, and from private, fleet and business buyers.
However, we await the October figures to assess the impact of the Volkswagen emissions testing scandal on sales of diesel-engined cars. According to SMMT figures, diesels accounted for 49.8% of total sales in 2014, but the figures for September 2015 indicate that sales have slipped to 45.9% compared with the previous September.
