VAuxhall could recall thousands of cars made between 2005 and 2014 as it seeks 'root cause' of problem that is said to have seen more than 130 explode
Thousands of Vauxhall Zafiras could be recalled as the firm investigates reports that more than 130 have spontaneously exploded.
The motor company is contemplating a recall of models made between 2005 and 2014 as it seeks to find the "root cause" of the problem, which it said relates to the heating and ventilation system.
It pledged to investigate "as a matter of urgency" the issue, behind the glovebox, that is said to cause the dashboard to heat up and the people-carrier to burst into flames.
Vauxhall has identified potential problems with the heating fan, pollen filter and resistor in cars that have had previous repairs "performed improperly or using certain non-genuine parts".
It is offering free vehicle inspections for any Zafira B owners worried about any unusual characteristics with the heating and ventilation system, such as a squeaking noise from behind the dashboard.
